Welcome to The Piano Bench Mag. Do you remember digging in your piano bench as a child for that book or piece of music that was just perfect? Well you have a new piano bench to dig into now. Each issue will provide you with resources and food for thought that will help make your life as a piano teacher easier.
The holidays are fast approaching and finding new resources can be time consuming on top of all the other planning that needs to be done this time of year.
In this first issue of The Piano Bench I am pleased to focus on HOLIDAYS. In A Treasury of Holiday Ideas, I have compiled a list of some of the best biogs and websites that offer music, games and other resources for use during the holidays.
Then, Lynn Frank shares her thoughts about her favorite app, Master in a Minute and Clary Lewis will give us food for thought (and a plan) as she relates her experiences collecting shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child as a studio project.
Are you looking for alternatives to the traditional December recital? Check out 5 Alternatives to December Recitals and see if anything strikes your fancy.
As busy as it gets this time of year, you need to take some time for yourself. So relax for a few minutes over a cup of coffee (or tea!) and enjoy a delightful story told Dr. Gail Fischler. See how Charlie Brown, Charles Schultz and the piano had a long term impact on her life and career in a story which starts with disappointment and ends in triumph.
Finally prop your iPad up next to the piano as I share a fun way to jazz up some Christmas carols. Perhaps you have some students who will enjoy this as they brush off their Christmas repertoire this year.
I invite you to come back each month and see what else can be found in The Piano Bench. In each issue a new topic will be explored bringing some of the best that the web has to offer together in one convenient spot.
